Handmade, for Sir Hare, is not a slogan on a label. It means small batches weighed and poured by people in our shop—not a factory line churning out identical pucks for a big-box aisle. Our soaps are tallow-based hard soaps meant to load on a brush and build into a cushiony lather. We hand pour a full 4 oz into an 8 oz tin so you have room to swirl the brush in the same container. No separate bowl required unless you prefer one.
We do not invent lab claims. We do not pretend a puck will cure every skin issue. What we can say from the product pages and from daily use: the soap lubricates the razor when you load and hydrate it properly, and Classic Barber’s page notes shea and mango butter for after-shave feel. The rest is technique—water, brush, and patience—which is true of almost any artisan hard soap.
Family shop also means you can reach a real person if something goes sideways. We treat customers the way we would want to be treated. That has been the point since we started in 2014 with one shaving product and grew into a fuller wet-shave lineup.

How it differs from canned foam
Canned foam and gel are convenient. They are also thin by design: propellant, filler, and a quick-rinse feel that disappears under the razor. Artisan hard soap works differently. You wet a brush, load paste from the puck, then add water little by little until the lather turns creamy. The cushion sits between blade and skin. You control thickness. You use less product over time once you learn the water balance.
That does not make canned foam “bad.” It makes it a different tool. - Classic Barber — reformulated barbershop scent with hints of bergamot and oak moss. Tallow-based; the product page notes shea and mango butter. Our default recommendation when someone wants “the shop chair” smell.
- Bay Rum / Drunken Sailor — bay rum with orange citrus. Woody, spicy, and a little sweet—the classic sailor story in a modern puck.
- Alpha — sandalwood and tobacco. Richer, warmer lane for people who want woods and leaf, not citrus or barbershop cologne.
- The Gambler — tonka bean, black patchouli, star anise, with hints of orange peel. A louder, distinctive blend if Classic Barber feels too familiar.

Size and tin
Each puck is 4 ounces, hand poured into an 8 ounce tin with room to load the brush directly from the container. That extra headspace is practical: less mess, no mandatory bowl, and waterproof labels on the custom Sir Hare tin. With daily face shaving, a puck often lasts months if you load correctly—swirl a damp brush, then build lather on the face or in a bowl. A little goes further than canned foam once the habit sticks.
Price stays $14.99 per soap. We do not run fake “sale” prices on the puck to make shipping or kits look cleverer than they are.
Shipping
U.S. shipping is a flat rate of $6.00 (see our shipping information page). We use USPS. Most domestic orders arrive in about 3–7 days depending on where you live. International rates vary by location. We ship on regular business days and send tracking when we have it.
We never call shipping free. The flat $6 U.S. rate is the honest number.
How to start
You need three things for a real wet shave with handmade soap: a brush, the soap, and a razor you trust (cartridge is fine while you learn the lather; a double-edge safety razor is the usual next step).
- Pick one scent. If you are unsure, start with Classic Barber at $14.99—bergamot and oak moss, easy to live with.
- Get a brush if you do not have one. Our shaving brush kit is $27.99 and pairs a brush with Classic Barber soap for a simple first box.
- Learn the water balance. Soak the brush, squeeze until damp (not dripping), load paste from the tin, paint onto a wet face, then add drops of water until the lather turns creamy. Our lather guide walks through it step by step.
- Shave with light pressure. Let the cushion do the work. Rinse the razor often. One careful pass beats three rushed ones.
