Best Pre Shave Oil

Pre shave Oil

has been around for thousands of years. Shaving with oil pre dates shaving creams, shaving soaps, and shaving gels.

Back then oils weren't used before applying the other products, but shaving oils were the primary lubricant for shaving. The term Pre Shave oil came in recent times.

Olive oil was a common shaving lubricant during Roman times and it's still something that people use today. I've tried it and it works, however the smell reminds me of fried foods. Olive oil is something that I enjoy having on my skin.

The purpose of any gel, cream, or oil is to provide a layer of protection between your skin and the razor. Just like many things in life the preparation accounts for a large part of the final result and shaving is no exception.

Shaving with a razor without preparing your skin and whiskers is a big no no. No prep and your skin will be red, irritated, razor bumps, and far from enjoyable.

Pre Shave oil has come a long way since Roman times. You'll find many different oil combinations with fragrances that linger almost like a cologne.

The viscosity (how thick or thin) the pre shave oil is depends on the brand of oil. Most shaving oils will contain other ingredients beyond oil. Antiseptics and moisturizers to protect your skin and provide the best shave possible are common examples.

The purpose of a pre shave oil is to moisturize your skin and hydrate your whiskers. An additional layer of protection is formed resulting in a smoother and more protective shave.

There are many different types pre shave oils that can be purchased, but the best ones are a select combination of oils infused with other ingredients. The combinations protect your skin and to provide an extra smooth  shave.

Some pre shave oils contain just a single type of oil and others contain a wide variety.  Here we will break down all of the different oils and ingredients used in our pre shave oil and the benefits of using each.

Jojoba Oil - Jojoba pronounced "ho ho ba" is an oil that is extracted from the nut of the Shrub Simmondsia Chinensis.  Research shows that this oil closely resembles the human Sebum, which is a naturally produced oil from our skin.  This oil has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and moisturization properties and is also a very shelf stable oil which makes it a great addition to pre shave oils.

Apricot Oil - This oil is extracted from the seeds (Kernels) of the Apricot (Prunus Armeniaca).  It is full of natural antioxidants such as Vitamin E and Vitamin C.  Some oils remain on the surface of your skin, but Apricot oil is absorbed easily leaving skin soft and smooth.  It is especially beneficial to those with dry or itchy skin.

Avocado Oil - This oil is derived from the Avocado tree and it is also known as a moisturizing oil.  Actually this oil is considered as one of the best moisturizers and also why you can find it in some of the most expensive cosmetic products.  It has monounsaturated fatty acids and presence of Vitamin E.  This oil leaves your skin soft, smooth, helps prevent inflammation, and also soothes your skin if irritated.
